Can I Ignore .DS_Store File When Downloading? (2 posts)

I've noticed a lot of discussion of not uploading the .DS_Store file. I, however, have to download a rather large chunk of files within folders. Each folder contains a .DS_Store file in it, which brings me a "The system cannot find the file specified" error message.

Is there any way that I can tell Fetch to ignore the dot files when downloading, and not just when displaying them?

    Hi,

No, I'm sorry, there isn't a way to tell Fetch to ignore files beginning with periods when downloading.

I assume the server is not a Mac OS X server? Because if it was, they should download without a problem.

Otherwise, unfortunately some servers let you upload files to them that you cannot download from them again, and it sounds like that's what happened here - I guess the best advice I can give is to be careful (or ask folks who upload things for you to be careful) to not upload the .DS_Store files.

There may be some way to login to the server (with telnet or SSH or something similar) and remove the files using the command line, but you would need to consult with the server maintainer about how to do that.

    Thanks,
