I have tried connecting with FTP SSL/TSL to a SERV-U FTP server on windows and it just wont work. Both on the same LAN and through a firewall same result. The dog just runs.

I get an error saying it is Unable to establish SSL connection.

    Any ideas here?

    Thanks

    Hi,

We'd like some more information to help us determine what the problem might be.

After you try to connect and you get the error message, could you please choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message?

We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

I am running Serv-U , Allow TLS/SSL connections only, port 2222. Both nodes are on the same network (192.168.6.0)

    From Fetch Transcript:

Connecting to 192.168.6.15 port 2222 (Mac OS X firewall is off) 9:16:02 AM
    Connected to 192.168.6.15 port 2222 9:16:02 AM
431 Unable to negotiate secure command connection

    From Serv-U Log (192.168.6.15):
[5] Wed 07Feb07 09:16:04 - Unable to establish SSL connection ((null))
    [5] Wed 07Feb07 09:16:06 - (000002) Closing connection

    Hi,

It looks like you've set up your server to do implicit SSL (aka SSL Connect), and Fetch only supports implicit SSL connections on port 990, which is the standard port for implicit SSL connections.

Otherwise, when you choose "FTP with TLS/SSL" as the connection method and any other port, Fetch will try to make an Explicit SSL (aka AUTH TLS) connection.

So either you need to configure the server to accept Implicit SSL connections on port 990, or set it up to accept AUTH TLS (Explicit SSL) connections, which you should be able to do on port 2222. While I am not familiar with Serv-U server software, from skimming their documentation I believe it does support AUTH TLS connections.

I hope this makes sense. Let us know if you have more questions. Thanks,

    Thank you , this worked.

For anyone else out there, all I did was

    1) for implicit SSL, set the port for Serv-U to listen on to be 990, and set the security option to be "ONly allow TLS/SSL Connections".

    2) or for Explicit SSL (setting a custom port other than 990) you need to change the security option to Allow SSL/TLS and Regular connections.

    Hi Adam,

Thanks for the followup, and the information about Serv-U. Glad to hear you got it working.
