Can Not Get Files (2 posts)

  Just got this job where I need to download a pre-existing website. However, I keep getting the message that I do not have the required permissions contact the server... I have checked with the owner of the website and I have the correct address, username and password. Some of the files I can get but the majority I can not. I have attached the Fetch transcript below. Thank you for any help or direction.

  Hi,

  Every file and folder on a server has a set of properties called "permissions" saying who is allowed to view the file, change the file, delete the file, etc. In order for you to be able to download files from a server, the files must be set to allow either the owner or any user to view (read) the file.

  But according to the file listing in the transcript you sent, for this particular file that you are having problems with - cover_thumb.jpg - the permissions are set very restrictively, such that neither the owner, nor any user, has permission to download the file. That's why you're getting an error; the server is looking at the settings on that file and saying, "well, I'm not allowed to let you have that."

  My guess is the situation is the same for the other files on the server you're having problems with. You'll need to talk to the owner of the website, or the people who run the server, and have them set the permissions on all the website files correctly so that you can download them. (This is not a problem you can fix yourself.)
