Cannot get file list ~ data conection error etc ( i bet your sick of this) (4 posts)

    I have been using FlashFXP on my PC for ages and had no problem logging into my FTP .. but im a proud owner of a new Powerbook and i was pointed towads Fetch as the best FTP client for the Mac.... enough knee rubbing already...

    basically Fetch connects to the FTP but will not get the file list. i have checked/unchecked PASV and Inet config in teh prefs, i have disabled and enabled all my network connections systematicaly, i have no firewall running ether 3rd party or built in.. ive enabled/disabled FTP options in shareing, pasv in the mac etc (basicaly i spent the best part of a couple of hours searching these forums)

    i have added the transcript from my FlashFXP client at the bottom of this ..as that has no problem connecting .. .the only differnce in the set up that i can see are these two options :
    1. "Site uses IP Masq/NAT/Non-Routable IP" which is checked

    2. "bind all sockets to this IP" which is checked and has my IP in the box

    im lost as to what to do ... i CAN use FlashFXP via VirtualPC on my laptop and it works fine ... but VirtualPC cost alot of cash and i dont really want to splash out on it for the sake of FTP ...

    Thanks for all the transcript information; it's very helpful. Unfortunately that FlashFXP session didn't actually download a file list -- it used one that had been cached -- so I 'm not able to tell how it's working. Could you try FlashFXP again and either refresh the file list or transfer a file so that the transcript includes a PORT or PASV command?

    FlashFXP in VPC on the powerbook works fine .. ive looked thru the settings again and can only see .. "Bind all sockets/ports to this IP" and my IP is in there and "site uses ipmasq/NAT/non routable IP" which is checked
    there is also a greyed out window that sayd "enable only when connected" that has a port 113 and UNIX in 2 boxes.

    I think the problem is that this server requires using the IP Masq/NAT/Non-routable IP option, and Fetch does not have such an option. You could ask the server administrator about trying to fix this from their end -- most FTP clients don't have that option.

    I'll see what it would take to support this option in Fetch.
