For about 2 weeks, I have been trying to log into my FTP server with Fetch, and it hasn't ever logged in.

Today, I tried logging into ftp.fetchsoftworks.com, and it didn't log in either. This is what the transcript said:
"Fetch 5.7.3 (5H683) Intel (Web Store) running on Mac OS X 10.8.2 (12C3103) Intel English
StuffIt Engine 0x820, StuffIt SDK Version 10.1.1b1
    Partial serial FETCH55001-4RYS-LNX4 T
Connecting to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com port 21 (Mac OS X firewall is allowing connections) (4/3/13 11:38 AM)
An FTP connection to “ftp.fetchsoftworks.com” could not be opened because the network is down. (Check your network connection, and try again.)
Update check skipped at 4/3/13 11:40 AM (next check after 4/9/13 4:44 PM)"

I logged in successfully on Terminal.

I got this message on Terminal:
    "230 User m******* logged in
    Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
    ftp> "

    Hi,

That's very odd. Have you tried restarting your Mac?

    Thanks,

It hasn't worked for weeks, in which time I have restarted my Mac multiple times.

Did anything change with your computer around the time it stopped working? E.g. did you upgrade the OS?

I would suggest downloading a fresh copy of Fetch, in case your current copy has been corrupted. If that does not work I would recommend reinstalling OS X, or taking the computer to an Apple Store Genius Bar.

    Thanks,

Yes, I bought a new computer recently. It's Mac OS Lion 10.8.2. Fetch is version 5.7.3.

If you've downloaded a fresh copy of Fetch, and still are able to make FTP connections in Terminal but not in Fetch, I would recommend reinstalling OS X, or taking the computer to an Apple Store Genius Bar. It seems as if part of the OS (the part that handles networking connections from Carbon applications like Fetch, but not BSD applications like the command line FTP client) is not functioning correctly.

By the way, have you installed Little Snitch or any other 3rd party network security or firewall software?

    Thanks,

I installed Astril VPN because I'm in China. However, I cannot log in with VPN on or off. I was able to log in in Hong Kong, where they do not have a national firewall.

    Hi,

It could be that VPN software does not support applications like Fetch, and that the national firewall blocks Fetch when the VPN is off.

Have you contacted the VPN vendor about the problem?

    Thanks,

At this point I found another FTP that works here with the VPN on or off. Could I request a refund please?
