Cannot upload pictures onto eBay (12 posts)

    I just purchased a new iMac running Leopard or OS X Version 10.5.1 and I also purchased a new version of Fetch 5.3. I have some new items "put" onto Fetch and old items that were carried over from my older iMac. I was preparing a listing on eBay and I tried to upload pictures to my item description on eBay. When I went preview my description the pictures did not appear. I then tried to EXACT same setup on my older iMac OS X Version 10.3.9 using my older version of Fetch 4.0.3 and everything worked as it should. Why won't the new version of Fetch work with my new iMac? What am I doing wrong?

    Hi,

    The most likely explanation is that when you used Fetch 5.3 on the new iMac, you did not upload the pictures to the same place you uploaded them using the old iMac.

    Try the following: upload a new test photo (give it a name you'll recognize and that is different from the photos that are already there) with Fetch on your old iMac.

    Then connect to your server using Fetch 5.3 on the new iMac, and in the list of photos in the Fetch window on the new iMac, you should see the photo you just uploaded with the old Mac. Do you? If not, you are not connected to the same folder on the new iMac. Look around the file list on the new Mac and see if you can find the test photo. If so, make a note of which folder you are in now and how you got there, and then be sure to upload photos there in the future.

    If this does not help, or if you have more questions, please let us know and we'll investigate further.

    Thanks,

    I sent you a message yesterday, Dec12 which is shown below. I tried what you suggested but it did not work...still cannot load pictures using Fetch 5.3 on my iMac running Leopard Any other suggestions would be most welcome

    Hi,

    We'd like to see some information about how your server is organized in order to give you further advice.

    Could you please do the following? This is a little tricky because it requires information from both Macintoshes.

    On the old iMac:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Go to the folder that holds your photos for eBay.
    * Choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Then, on the new iMac, do exactly the same thing:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Go to the folder that holds your photos for eBay.
    * Choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    It will probably be easiest to reply twice to this message, once with each transcript, from each Mac.

    We'll take a look and give some suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    Thanks for the transcripts.

    I see that you have a folder named "ebay pictures" on your server. Are you trying to put your pictures in that folder? I'm not saying that would be correct if you haven't been - I'm just trying to understand the steps you go through when uploading the photos.

    Could you give us an example of an address you would enter in your eBay auction for a photo?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    The folder titled eBay pictures was a method I tried to get it to work. I just forgot to delete it. Below is an example of a listing of a listing I have on eBay at this time. The very bottom of the listing is an example of the address that is being used to upload the pictures. I have used that same address with my old iMac and Fetch 4.03 successfully many times.

    Hi,

    Thanks for the additional information.

    I apologize for continuing to ask you questions, but everything looks correct to me, so I'm puzzled about what might be going on.

    Could you please do the following?

    * Create a test picture - you could just duplicate one of your existing ones and give it a new name.
    * On the new iMac, quit Fetch if it is running.
    * On the new iMac, open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Upload the test photo.
    * Choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    And also tell me the address you would use in your eBay listing for that test picture, if it was going to go in a listing.

    Thanks for your patience,

    The new test photo is named coinchanger.jpg. The address I would use is
    <img src="http://webpages.charter.net/kjlake/coinchanger.jpg”> . I have used this address for all of my listing. All that I would have to do is change the word coinchanger, for example, to whatever the next item would be.
    Thanks, I hope this new info will help.

    Scott, I believe I have solved the problem. The procedure I normally use to get a listing ready for eBay is to first type it in Microsoft Word and then copy and paste it into eBay. It would save me time. Therefore, on my old iMac and Fetch 4.0.3, I was using Microsoft Word 98 and Classic. Also, every time I would type the address for my picture upload it some how was connected to my first internet provider, which I haven’t used in 3 years, but everything still worked on eBay OK. I discovered this by holding the curser over the picture address in Word 98 and it would show my very first Internet server or provider. When I purchased my new iMac, the newest version of Word and the latest version of Fetch 5.3 and nothing worked. I was copying old descriptions from Word 98 and pasting them into the new Word 2004 and just change some of the text (a shortcut to save typing) But in your last message you asked to see the address of my test upload which prompted me to totally rewrite my picture address the exact same way only using the new version of Word rather then copying and pasting and now by holding the curser over the address it would show my new server. However, it still would not upload to eBay so I removed the quotes from the address and everything worked, as it should. EBay’s html format for picture uploading shows quotes around the address, but the new iMac and Fetch 5.3 doesn’t work with the quotes. I appreciate all of your help and suggestions and hopefully this may help somebody else that is having similar problems.
