can't connect to website (10 posts)

    Hi, I uploaded info onto a website about two months ago and since that date have not been able to get onto the website again while at home. I can get on it from other computers (although another woman in my town, also using OSX, cannot get into the site). I talked with my service provider (I use WildBlue Satelite) and they checked everything on their end and said the problem wasn't coming from them. It must be on my computer. I went to the help section from GoDaddy (the webserver) and they emailed me a ton of stuff which I tried that didn't change anything.
    I use Safari on a Mac OSX. The message I get from them is :
    Safari can’t open the page.
    Safari can’t open the page “http://www.wildwomenartists.com/welcome.htm”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message.

    When I try to get in using Fetch I get the same information.

    When I try to go onto a specific page I get this:

    I feel a total ingoramus. Please let me know hwat I have done wrong. Was it the folder called "WWWildwomen"? It is empty and not necessary. How do I get rid of it?

    Hi,

    The fact that you can get to the website from other computers suggests that the website is set up correctly; if it was set up incorrectly, you wouldn't be able to get to it anywhere.

    So it appears that either there is something odd going on with your Internet connection that is preventing you from seeing it, or your computer is trying to connect to the wrong place.

    For what it's worth, I tried going to:

    http://www.wildwomenartists.com/

    and it works for me.

    A couple of questions to begin with:

    Does the other woman in your town who had a problem also use WildBlue Satellite as their service provider?

    And just to clarify, can you connect successfully to the server using Fetch, or not? If you cannot connect using Fetch, I would like to start investigating there.

    Hi again, sorry it has taken me so long to get back to this. I appreciate your prompt response.

    I can get onto Safari through Fetch, and I can access all the wildwomen files but still get the same response. The site won't open. And none of the files will open either, Safari "loses the connection".

    I understand that the computer may be trying the wrong address. I have tried as many configurations as I can think of, have removed cookies, have reset preferences etc. I don't know what else to do. Thank you. s

    Hi,

    I think the next thing you should try is downloading Firefox, which is a different web browser, and see if you can view your site using it.

    You can download it from here:

    http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/

    Download and install it, try to visit your website, and see what happens.

    Hi again. I cannot get in on Firefox either. I get this message:
    The connection was reset

    The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    * The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
    moments.

    * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
    connection.

    * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
    that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

    As far as I know I don't have a firewall, I know i don't have a proxy. Firefox is permitted to access the web.

    As far as I can tell, the problem is with your Internet connection. Fetch is not having any problems connecting, and the website is working fine, it's just that your computer cannot connect to it.

    The error is not related to Fetch, nor is it related to the new files you uploaded a few months ago.

    I researched the "lost network connection" (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) error a little, and apparently it is something satellite Internet users see on occasion when surfing the web.

    I suggest you contact WildBlue again, and tell them that other people can connect to the website just fine, but that your computer cannot. It is, unfortunately, a problem with their service.

    I am having the same problems with wildblue. It seems that the problem is related to weather. If we have fog or large clouds godaddy hosted websites exhibit the problem. While I can access websites like google, apple, yahoo etc. websites hosted at godaddy will cause the "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." error. My guess is that due to excessive retries the connection is reset at the wildblue gateway. That seems to be the only logical explanation since friends on dsl can access the sites without any problems.
    I don't think there is any hope of this ever being fixed. I just go off the phone with a wildblue tech support rep and as usual they are worthless. They read from their scripts completely ignoring what you tell them... reset your satelitte modem for 1 minute @!#$%^&*()... So I am turning to searching the net and see that this problem has been around for ever it seems and the wildblue tech support is completely unaware of it???
