It could be that the server has a firewall that blocks passive mode transfers. You could ask the server administrator to support passive mode. If that does not help, you can turn off "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Fetch's Preferences window.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for your response. By the time you had replied the problem seemed to have cleared itself - now it has reappeared. I have switched off the passive mode as you recommended.

This seems to be a Fetch related problem rather than server as I have accounts on several different servers and can't get into any of them.

Fortunately(!) I have a Windoze PC running SmartFTP and can transfer files this way but I hope you can help to find a solution to this annoying recurring problem

    regards,
    Jon

Can you post a transcript from Cute FTP? Also, can you connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (with PASV checked or unchecked)?

    Thanks,

CuteFTP is using passive mode successfully, so I would recommend checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences.

    Thanks,

I am having the EXACT same problem with the same solution (use CuteFTP) which works. I don't see a resolution for this. Are you guys still working on the problem? Any other suggestions other than the passive check?

    Posted 19 years ago #

  • jonnyfolk Member

I have tried it in both modes in the past - it does not seem to be a solution to the problem. However I will give it a try the next time it goes down (currently it's working ok).

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Dan@MMSIT.net:

Is using passive mode not working for you? In that case I'd want to compare transcripts from Fetch and CuteFTP.

    Thanks,
