I can download files from my site
but not upload. The error I get is
    either "Can't build data connection,
cannot assign requested address" or the
    dog runs forever.

I'm using a Mac Powerbook running OS 9.0.4.
My net connection is through a hub to a
PC connected to DSL service. I am able to
upload files using scp from my Mac using
NiftyTelenet, so the connection seems o.k.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

I would recommend checking or unchecking the Use passive mode transfers (PASV) box in the Firewall section of Preferences. Does that make a difference?

Also, are you using a Power Mac 7200/90, or a third-party ethernet card?

    Thanks,

I am having the same problem. I get about 3/4 of the way through a 486k file upload and it freezes. Downloads fine, I haven't yet been able to upload. I have tried it literally 8imes just to make sure; changing different things, etc.

    OS 9.0
ibook (old clam shell style) 96 megs ram
    eartlink dialup connection
    usually around 49k - 50k bps (seriously)

passive was checked in prefs, so I unchecked it, same problem. I am uploading to hypermart.net servers, but that shouldn't make a difference. I upped the memory allocated to it; everything.

    swatson: Some things to try:

    1) Upload a smaller file -- does that work?
    2) Connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (use a blank user id and password) and upload to the incoming folder.
    3) Try uploading with a different FTP client, such as Vicomsoft's FTP client, to see if the problem is specific to Fetch.
    4) Make sure you have the latest iMac modem firmware.

I tried toggling the (PASV) box on and off
    with no luck.

    I'm using a PowerBook PowerPC G3 400mz with
the standard ethernet card it came with.

    Thanks,

I would suggest trying a different FTP client, such as Vicomsoft's FTP client, to see whether it's a problem with Fetch or with your DSL setup.

    swatson:

Could you send transcripts from Fetch 3.0.3 and 4 to support@fetchsoftworks.com?

    Thanks,
