Although I can connect, my Fetch connection always times out before the file list is displayed. I have PASV disabled. I wonder if this is connected with the security update another user mentioned.

Are you running Mac OS X, with the OS X firewall turned on? If so you should go to the Sharing panel of System Preferences and turn it off.

Or you should use passive mode (turn that on in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences).

Let me know if neither of those work.

    Thanks,

Yes, I'm running OS X and I had checked and tried those fixes. Just in case, I tried again with passive mode. Here is the transcript. I might add that I have the same problem with NetFinder.

Update: I downloaded version 3.03 and I'm having no problems connecting and transferring files.

Can you connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the User ID and Password fields blank) and get a file list with PASV either turned on or off, with Fetch 4.0.3?

    Thanks,

Thanks for taking the time to work out this problem for me. I was able to get in using PASV but not otherwise.

My guess is that a server-side firewall at www.cabrillo.edu keeps passive mode from working there. So the next question is why active mode does not work for you. Active mode should work unless there is a firewall blocking access to your computer. Are you sure that the OS X firewall is turned off on your machine?

    Thanks,

Yes, you're right, www.cabrillo.edu won't allow passive mode. That is the only advice I can get from the network administrator there who couldn't help me any further with this problem.

Here is what I have enabled / disabled in the Preferences:Network / Sharing:

    Personal File Sharing On
    Firewall Off
    Internet Sharing Off

    Thanks!

Im having the same problem since updating to OSX security update 10.3.7. Ive tried passive on/off in Fetch, the apple network settings, everything, but can't get through on certain ftp servers that we admin. Others are ok so i thinks it has to do with the server settings that we're trying to ftp into and of course, the admins keep blaming it on us Mac users! Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    trogers:

I think that fusiondg.com is blocking passive mode connections with a firewall. You can ask them to allow passive mode, or uncheck "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Fetch's Preferences dialog. If you do that you'll also want to go to the Sharing panel of System Preferences and turn off the OS X firewall.

    Thanks,

We just switched web hosts. I've been using Fetch problem-free for years... and as recent as the day before we switched.

Now, I can't upload multiple files without it stopping and have the dog running...

    can't always make a connection...

get dropped in the middle of a connection...

get an error message that I can't log in more than three times...

It's frustrating and I was sent to this post by the webhost- which hasn't helped. I'm gathering that it's nothing to do with our end since I have zero problems connecting to any other host except this one?

    Thanks

    Billy

Oh, and same problem if I use Dreamweaver's ftp function...

    doh.

    It's gotta be them...

That'd be my conclusion. If you like you can post a new topic with the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see the problem.
