connection and server errors (5 posts)

    Hello,

I use Fetch to upload files to one of my client's websites (a school district). This website I'm working on includes hundreds of word and powerpoint documents. Most of the time, the documents upload fine. But for every 30-40 documents I will have 1 to 4 documents that will not upload. I have noticed that the docs that don't upload tend to be large in file size and they are most often the powerpoint docs. I have tried in vain to determine exactly which documents don't upload and why, but to no avail. Different files give me different error messages. The primary ones are as follows:
    1) Fetch could not get "ppb64.ppt" because the ftp server encountered an error accessing a file or folder
    2) Fetch could not put "ppb64-.ppt" because connection was reset by the server.
    3) Sometimes it just stalls and hangs forever

The weird thing is that with my PC using Filezilla, I can upload the files no problem. Another weird thing is that sometimes if I re-save the files, or rename them, they will upload (oh, and yes, I sometimes have the same problem with downloading too)

I have talked to my client's server administrator and he seems convinced that it is some settings with Fetch and not the server, he has even looked at your message board.

I changed my file settings to PASV and that seemed to help a bit. I just tried checking the ADAT box that I just found on the message board, it worked for one file and not for another.

The server administrator just told me to do this: When you use the Put command, do not set the "If a file already exists:" menu to Pick a different name in the Put dialog. Instead, set it to Replace existing file .

I would love to try this but I don't see any option for "replace existing file" in my upload tab.

OK, and here's one last bit of info. Here's my log from the last thing I tried to download that didn't work:

    Please help. Thank you.

    Hi,

The uploading problem is one that we are trying to address in the next Fetch release. If you would like to try a beta version please email bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com.

You should see the "If a file already exists:" menu when you click the Put button.

As for the downloading problem, that appears to be a server problem, based on the "Internal error in processing" message from the server. You can try to resume failed downloads by double-clicking the partial file.

    Thanks,

I just downloaded Beta and my file upload problem persists. Do you have any suggestions for changing my preferences to combat the issue?

    Thanks,

I take that back. I changed my settings back to PASV and removed the ADAT checkmark and both my stubborn files have been uploaded. Awesome.

Still, if you have any suggestions for my preferences, I'm all ears.

That's good to hear. It sounds like you have the preferences you want. We generally recommend having PASV checked.

If you see any problems, please post or email a transcript.

    Thanks,
