Greetings. I have successfully and gratefully used Fetch for years without problems. Recently I changed wireless routers to a D-link DIR-320. Since then, I have been able to connect to my server, but no other Fetch functions work. For example, when trying to view the contents of a folder, some of the files show, but Fetch does not complete the action (dog continues to run). When trying to upload a file, the action fails.

I have Passive Mode Transfers checked and my OSX is not using a firewall. I am posting the transcript below. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

    HI Stacey,

The first thing I'd suggest is try unchecking the "Use passive mode transfers" checkbox and see if that helps.

If that doesn't help, I'd try connecting your Mac directly to your cable/DSL modem (bypassing the new router), if possible, to verify that it's the cause of the problem, and not that your server is just suddenly having problems.

Let us know how those two suggestions go.

    Thanks,

    Scott,

It now works, but I am not sure I can tell you why. However, here is what we did:

It worked plugged directly into the modem.

Changing the Active/Passive setting didn't change anything.

We then configured port forwarding in the router with a new static IP address, and then it worked. We used the port info from the Fetch transcript I sent you earlier.

Then, just for kicks, we turned off the port forwarding and it still worked!

However, even as I was writing this, I went back and checked on how the Passive box was checked. I found it unchecked. So I checked it and Fetch stopped working. I unchecked and it still didn't. So I unchecked it, closed and reopened Fetch and lo and behold it worked. Subsequent tests confirm that one must close and reopen the program for that change to take effect.

Nevertheless, all the port configuring and unconfiguring took place without changing the Active/Passive setting.

Hope this helps you help someone else in the future, for whatever it's worth! Thanks for your suggestion.

    Peace,

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

Some routers can get confused when you start with active and switch to passive (or vice versa) - usually quitting Fetch and re-opening and starting fresh unconfuses them. So that's my guess for at least part of the behavior you saw.

Anyway, I'm glad it seems to be working now - thanks for the followup.

    Best,
