Corrupt Downloads (6 posts)

    all of a sudden, the audio files i download with Fetch are corrupt. they play, but have very loud white noise over the top of the audio. Also, artwork files download with weird coloring and distored images.

    This happens regardless of the location of my computer or connection. The only constant is my computer and Fetch. Tonight, I was able to access an FTP site through a browser and they downloaded just fine. But with Fetch, no good.

    Hi Aaron,

    Is this a problem with files from just one server? Or is it a problem with files from several different servers?

    We'd like to see a transcript of one of the problem downloads in order to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Download one of the audio files that you are experiencing problems with.
    * Then choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    thanks for the quick reply. it's happening with different FTP servers. but, as you asked, here is the info. i downloaded some artwork and it came through with funky colors and lines all over it. (i downloaded this same file via the web FTP and it looks just fine)

    Hi Aaron,

    Thanks for posting the transcript.

    It looks like the problem is that your files are being downloaded in Text mode instead of Binary mode.

    Could you please check the following?

    * Go to the Fetch menu and choose Preferences.
    * Click the Download tab.
    * What is the setting of Default download mode? It should be set to Automatic. If it is instead set to Text, click the pop-up menu and change it to Automatic.
    * If you made a change, open a new connection to the server and try downloading again and see if that fixes the problem.

    If the Default download mode was already set to Automatic, let us know and we'll check some other things.
