Deleted directory keeps reappearing (9 posts)

  A deleted directory keeps reappearing and it causes some of my site not to work. Each time I update my site, I have to go back and delete the directory. Is there a way to prevent this ghost directory from returning from the dead?

  Hi Cara,

  What program are you using to create your website? What is the name of this problematical directory?

  If it reappears every time you update your site, it sounds like perhaps it is being re-uploaded from your Mac each time you upload your updates; but that's just a guess based on what you've said so far, I could be wrong.

  Thank you for responding so quickly!

  My site is run by Wordpress Thesis and the directory that keeps appearing is "blog." I do have a blog (carabreeden.net/blog) but when the directory is in my files the blog doesn't appear. Strangely, it works just fine when I delete the directory, but it keeps popping up every time I update my site.

  Hi Cara,

  Just to be clear... are you making changes to your website on a Mac, and then uploading them using Fetch? Or are you using some other system for updating your website?

  If you're using Fetch, which version are you using? (This is so I can give the correct instructions when asking for further information.)

  I am making changes on a Mac using Wordpress Thesis (an online application.) I upload all my files using Fetch 4.0.3.

  Hi Cara,

  Okay, thanks for the info. I'm not familiar with Wordpress Thesis.

  The next time you make an update and upload files, please do the following:

  * After you upload your files, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
  * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

  We'll take a look and see if we can figure out where the folder might be coming from.

  Hi Cara,

  Thanks for the transcript. It shows that the "blog" folder was not there when you connected to the server, and you did not upload a "blog" folder with Fetch, but yet after you uploaded your file, there is a "blog" folder there.

  So Fetch is not creating this folder, nor is it getting uploaded from your Mac unexpectedly. It must be being created by Wordpress Thesis when you use the on-line app, or by the server at some point; I don't know why either would be doing that, but as I said, I'm not familiar with Wordpress Thesis.

  You should talk with the Wordpress Thesis people to see if they have any ideas where it comes from or why it gets created, and if they can't help, talk to the people who run the server and see if they know; but this is outside the realm of Fetch.
