Hi! My Mac runs 9.2.2 and since a few days ago OS X 10.1.5. Unfortunately all versions of Fetch above 3.01 suffer from the same problem, which is that the directory listing will behave as if I typed in Unix something like 'ls -l'. I.e., in addition to showing the filenames, the window will display for each file things like access rights, owner, etc. So, if I double click to get a file, the system will of course not find the file because it thinks its filename is, say, "r-- filename george cs" instead of simply filename. I know that this problem is mentioned in the FAQ but the recommended measures reported there will not work in my case. The old version 3.01 works perfectly ok.

That's very strange. Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see the strange file list?

    Thanks,

Unfortunately that transcript did not include a file list. Could you use the "View File List" command in the Remote menu and post the results?

    Thanks,

i guess there is no solution to this problem either :-((

I apologize for not noticing your follow-up -- thanks for posting again.

It looks like your FTP server is using a non-standard date format, and that throws Fetch (where most servers would say "Aug 26 17:10", yours says "26 Aug 17:10").

Do you know what sort of server this is, or why it uses a different date format?

    Thanks,

You are right, it does switch the order of date and month name. I don't know the answer, neither does our Unix administrator. The machine in question is an IBM running AIX 4.2. But please bear in mind, that version 3.0.1 of Fetch has no problem whatsoever. How can that be?

    Posted 21 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

I'm surprised that 3.0.1 works, because it uses basically the same code for parsing the file list. Perhaps the change is an inadvertent result of an unrelated bug fix.

Thanks for reporting this; I'll think about ways to improve things.
