    Hi,

We've had a number of reports of crashes caused by the 3ivx video codec, which comes with Flip Video Cameras. To remove 3ivx you should:

    1) In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder..." from the Go menu
    2) Enter:

    /Library/QuickTime

    and press Go
    3) Drag the 3ivxVideoCodec file to the trash

If that does not fix the problem, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Jim Matthews

    Hi Katie,

What version of Mac OS X are you running? Do you get a crash report or error message?

    Thanks,

    Mac OS X version 10.4.11

When I try to open the application, the dog pops up in the dock and bounces twice and then disappears. I don't get an error messages or anything. It just doesn't open.

    Hi Katie,

Sorry for the mysterious behavior, that's due to a bug that we are fixing. Fetch 5.7 requires Mac OS X 10.5 and an Intel Mac, so it won't run on 10.4.11. You should download Fetch 5.6 from http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/

    Thanks,

The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.

Tried to upgrade from 5.6 .. Got message as above. Not sure where/who these permissions are a problem. Will reboot machine to see if it goes aways.

I like your captcha.. what is it?

    Hi Annamarie,

Try dragging Fetch 5.6 to the Trash before installing 5.7.

    Thanks,

Just tried to upgrade to 5.7 and it is just crashing - using OS X 10.7.2. Is this a LION Issue?

    Thanks -
    Lance

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi Lance,

There is a problem with the 3ivx software that comes with Flip video cameras that causes Fetch and other applications to crash on Lion. You can uninstall the 3ivx software, or contact us at http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/support and request an experimental copy of Fetch that works around this problem.

    Thanks,

    Just downloaded 5.7 and it doesn't run Feb 14 2012 6:50 MST

    I am running OSX 10.4.11... what's that you say I need 10.5??

Well here is a copy paste from YOUR included documentation:
(I added the copies of the version stuff for emphasis)

Fetch is a Macintosh program for transferring files over networks, such as the Internet, using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).

    Fetch can be used to:

Publish a website at a web hosting provider.
Publish images for eBay auction listings.
Transfer documents to a printing company or service bureau.
Submit advertisements to newspapers and magazines.
Move files between your Macintosh and Macintosh, UNIX, Windows, NetWare, or other sorts of computers, as well as specialized equipment including medical imaging machines, image editing systems, and photo processing equipment.

Fetch 5.7 runs on Mac OS X 10.4 or later.

I apologize -- when we updated the documentation for Fetch 5.7 we missed that statement in the Read Me. Fetch 5.7 requires an Intel Mac running 10.5 or later. For 10.4.11 we recommend Fetch 5.6, which you can download from http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download . We will correct the Read Me in our next release.

I just downloaded Fetch 5.7 but it will not run/open. I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and do not have the 3ivx file. I have tried running it by taking out other codec files, but that still does not work... When I run Fetch it opens up my ITunes...?? Please help

    Posted 12 years ago #

    Opens iTunes? That's very strange.

I would recommend putting your copy of Fetch in the Trash, restarting, and downloading a fresh copy. Let me know if that doesn't work.

    Thanks,

Mac defaults to opening the file with Itunes - what other application, if any, should it be opened with?

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

Are you referring to the Fetch_5.7.dmg file?

That's a disk image file, and the Finder should mount it as a disk (you don't need to open it in an application).

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Gdc Member

When I download Fetch, the following file appears: Fetch_5.7.dmg.crdownload
When I try to open it, my mac tries to do so with Itunes... I have tried changing the default application to see if another would work, but none do. Ultimately, I figured it would not need an application but rather would just open, elas, that is not what happens...I downloaded three different times now...

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

Apparently the download is not working. I would try restarting, or using a different web browser. You should end up with a file named Fetch_5.7.dmg.

I just got a Warning message telling me it does not recognize the disk image Fetch_5.7.dmg...? Could it be a Chrome issue? Is there a browser you would suggest? Thanks a million JIm!

If Chrome isn't working I'd try Safari.

I am having the same problem. I downloaded the 5.7.1 upgrade. When I try to run, the dog bounces a couple of times and then nothing happens. I am running Mac OS 10.7.3 on an Intel Mac Pro with 32GB of ram. I have searched for above mentioned file (3ivxVideoCodec) and it is not on my system. Any suggestions?

    Hi Robin,

I'd like to take a look at your Fetch.log file. To find it:

    1) Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu in the Finder
    2) Enter:

    ~/Library/com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch/Logs

    and click the Go button

You can send it to me at bugs@fetchsoftworks.com

    Thanks,

By the way, I still had Fetch 5.6 in my trash, so I dragged it back into my Applications folder (overwriting 5.7). It works now, so this is obviously an upgrade bug. Let me know when it is safe to upgrade to 5.7.

I tried to go to the folder ~Library/com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch/Logs; it said "The folder can't be found"

    Posted 12 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

That suggests that Fetch 5.7.1 is not getting very far in its startup process. Could you send your system.log file? To find it:

    1) Choose Go to Folder from the Go menu in the Finder
    2) Enter:

    /var/log

    and click the Go button

    Thanks,
