    I get this message when trying to connect to any server: "An FTP connection to . . . could not be opened because the FTP server dropped the connection. Try again, or contact the server admin. . .to verify the server is running."
    I'm on a mac book pro, running 10.5.6
    Contacted my client, they are getting uploads ownloads ok. Contacted my internet service provider, they said the problem is not them. Help. Tried to look at similar postings, but none of them directly relate.

    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Try connecting to one of the problem servers.
    * After you get the error message, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and see if we can figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    Thanks for the transcript.

    A couple more questions for you...

    Has Fetch been working for you successfully before on this Mac? I assume this is a new problem that just started recently?

    What happens if you try to connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the username and password blank)?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi,

    Thanks for the additional information. Could you please try the following? While they are fairly basic troubleshooting steps, we find they do sometimes help problems like the one you are experiencing.

    * Shut down your Mac.
    * Unplug your router or wireless base station.
    * Unplug your cable/DSL modem.
    * Plug the cable/DSL modem back in, and wait about a minute for it to get completely started up.
    * Then plug the router back in, and wait another minute for it.
    * Finally, start your Mac.
    * Try connecting to a server.

    Let us know if that helps or not.

    Thanks,

    THANK YOU. I just did the full shut down of everything and it worked. I just uploaded my files for a client. I had shut down my computer and actually restarted my network, but not at the same time. For whatever reason the simultaneous (sp?) restarts worked. how simple. appreciate all of your help.
