  Is there any way to open a mirror document that has been set to auto-run, without it actually running automatically ... i.e. to edit it?

  Yes. If you hold down the Option key while Fetch opens the document, it will not auto-run.

  Imagine not thinking of the option key. I must be getting doddery. Thanks Jim.
