"Edit" Feature Won't Save Changes to Server (5 posts)

    I'm using Fetch 5.1b2 with BBEdit 6.5 on OS X 10.4.5.

When I use the "Edit" feature the file on the server opens fine in BBEdit, but any changes I make does not get saved to the server. I do not get an error message when I save and close the file in BBEdit either.

However, if I use Fetch 4.0.3, I can successfully edit a file on the server.

I don't know if this is a clue or not, but if I open and try to use 5.1b2 first, then open 4.0.3, then 4.0.3 also can not edit files on the server while both apps are running. Neither versions can edit files on the server.

But, if I open 4.0.3 first, edit a file on the server, then open 5.1b2, even with both apps open 4.0.3 can still continue to edit files on the server, but 5.1b2, can not.

The above problem occurs in 5.1b2 with both SFTP and FTP.

    Any ideas?

    Justin =)

    Hi,

    Sorry you're having troubles.

It's a known problem that the Edit feature will not work if two copies of Fetch are running, so that's why you saw Fetch 4.0.3 stop working when 5.1b2 was running. So it's important to make sure that only one copy of Fetch is running when trying to Edit something.

I tried to duplicate this behavior with Fetch 5.1b2 and BBEdit 6.5.3 on Mac OS X 10.4.5, and could not.

Could you please try the following steps to help gather more information about the problem?

    * If you are not using BBEdit 6.5.3, update to it. This is a free update from BBEdit 6.5, you can get it from http://www.barebones.com/support/bbedit/updates.shtml .

    * Then, restart your computer (or log out and log back in). Then run Fetch 5.1b2 and BBEdit and see if you can duplicate the problem.

    * If you still see the problem, quit Fetch 5.1b2 and try Fetch 5.0.5, and let us know if you see the problem with it.

    Thanks,

D'oh! I totally forgot to check if I had the latest 6.5.x.

Updating BBEdit 6.5.2 to 6.5.3 fixed my problem.

Sorry to take up your time and thanks very much for the help!
