I have been uploading my files successfully for a couple of years. Recently, after thinking I uploaded a file, I have found that no content was uploaded, just the file name.
This problem has been discussed in the past and attributed to Norton. I have disabled everything Norton (firewall, privacy control) and removed any reference in my Login Items. I'm still having the problem.

    Any more suggestions?

    Thanks.

Could you try uploading one of the files in question again, and choose "Refresh File List" form the Directories menu afterwards to see if if the file is empty. If it is, choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu and post the contents; I'll look for clues.

    Thanks,

    Mysterioso!

This morning, when I logged onto my site to do as you suggested and uploaded a file, it arrived complete, safe and sound. I had not shut down my computer or restarted. It and I went to sleep in the same state as when the file arrived empty.

Is this the "presence of the car mechanic" phenomenon? :)

As I mentioned, this has happened to me before. I thought I had fixed the problem by addressing the "Norton" issue. This time I did nothing, Norton being in the same state as before when I "fixed" the problem.

If this happens again, I will try your advice.

    Meantime, thanks for the help.

It is happening randomly now. Sometimes the files will upload intact, sometimes empty. I can tell that the files are empty by how fast they upload, even though the correct file size is listed in the site directory. However, if I refresh the files, the file size is zero.

I have a firewall, but it is disabled because I am connected to DSL via a router. In the Fetch preferences I have enabled "use passive mode transfers". Sometimes this helps, sometimes not.

Fortunately, I have the opportunity to use Cute on a PC laptop and the file upload without a problem.

I sure would appreciate any help.

The Norton problem is the only one that I've seen that looks like this. One workaround for the Norton problem is to uncheck "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Fetch Preferences; but I gather that does not help?

    Thanks,

    Sometimes it helps, sometimes not.

A curious thing is that Fetch worked like a dream until maybe a month ago. I haven't done anything different, except for the regular updates for various sw.

Except for needing the virus protection I'd ashcan the Norton. So many out-of-memory error messages for folks using System Works, most have trashed it completely.

    Thanks for your help.
