    I can connect sftp using Terminal but Fetch tells me, "These settings cannot be used because an error has occurred. Mac OS error -2147408863." What is the problem? Latest Fetch, latest system, MacBook Pro.

    Hi,

    This error indicates a problem with the Mac OS X keychain, which Fetch uses to securely store the passwords for your shortcuts and recent connections.

    Please do the following to check for and repair problems with the keychain:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open the Keychain Access application, which is in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder.
    * Go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Preferences.
    * Click on the "First Aid" tab.
    * Make sure both "Synchronize login keychain password" and "Set login keychain as default" are checked.
    * Then go to the Keychain Access menu, and choose Keychain First Aid.
    * In the password field of the Keychain First Aid window, enter your Mac OS X admin password (this should be the same as your Mac OS X login password).
    * Click the Repair radio button.
    * Click the Start button.
    * Once it's done, close the Keychain First Aid window.
    * Restart your Macintosh.

    Then try Fetch again.

    Let us know if you're still having problems after doing this.

    Thanks,

    It does indeed seem to be a problem interacting with the keychain--in a shortcut I cannot save a changed password--but repairing the keychain does not solve the problem.

    Hi Charles,

    Sorry to hear that didn't help. The next thing to try would be to delete the keychain entry for the server you're having problems connecting to (is it the same one you're having trouble updating the shortcut for?).

    Here's how to do that:

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.

    * Open the Keychain Access application, which is in the Utilities folder inside your Applications folder.

    * In the upper-left corner of the window, select the top keychain named "login".

    * Find the entry whose Name is the hostname of the server that you're trying to connect to when you get the error (or whose hostname is in the problem shortcut). One way to do this is to type the hostname of the server in the search box in the upper right of the Keychain Access window. This entry should have a Kind of "Internet password" or "Fetch password."

    * Select this password entry from the keychain, and delete it (pressing the Delete key should do). Be sure you remember what the password is before doing this step, because you will need to re-enter it.

    * Try connecting to the server again. You will need to enter your password.

    Let us know if this fixes the problem or not.

    Thanks,
