    I am trying to download a .mov and I get the following error message after a few minutes of downloading:

    Fetch could not get "name of .mov" because the FTP server encountered an error accessing a file or folder.

    Server responded: "Connection closed; transfer aborted."

    Any ideas why this would be happening

    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem.

    Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try downloading the file again.
    * Then choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and try to figure out what the problem might be.

    Hi John,

    It looks to me like the most likely explanation is that you are out of space in your account on the server - there is no more room to upload files.

    I would check with the folks that run the server and make sure you are not running up against a storage limit.

    If you have confirmed that is not the problem, let us know and we will try to make further suggestions, although this appears likely to be some server issue.

    Hi John,

    My apologies, I glanced over your transcript too quickly yesterday. I see that you are indeed trying to download.

    Some more questions for you, in order to help us understand the problem better:

    The first time you reported a problem, your follow-up said you'd gotten it fixed - what was the solution the first time? (I realize you're getting a different error message this time.)

    It looks to me like you're trying to use the Resume Download command, and that is when you get the "invalid marker" error, is that correct?

    And finally, do you connect to the Internet through a router or a wireless network, or are you connected directly to a cable/DSL modem? (Or are you at work where they have an office network?)

    No problem. The first time the file just showed up on my desktop after I had tried the resume download a few times; I'm not sure what happened. I am able to download for a few minutes and then I get and error saying that "Fetch could not get (file name) because the FTP server encountered an error accessing a file or folder. Server responded: "Connection closed; transfer aborted"

    I am able to resume a few times and then I get the invalid reply marker error message.

    I am connected wireless.

    Hi John,

    Thanks for the information. The source of disconnects are usually either a router, or a server.

    My only suggestion is that you try connecting your Mac directly to your cable/DSL modem and see if that helps, to rule out a problem with the wireless router (sometimes they are the cause of unexpected disconnects). If you can download successfully when connected directly to your modem, look to see if there are software or firmware updates for the wireless router.

    Otherwise, I suspect it's a problem with the server (especially since you get the weird error when trying to resume downloads) and you should contact them for advice.
