My Mac was just upgraded to OS 10.4.2 and now when I try to get into my website using Fetch I get a "error number -1" message.

I know this website helped me before when I was upgrading from an old version of Fetch and I'm hoping it will again be a quick and easy fix! ;)

This is my employer's computer so I generally can't go downloading stuff or changing anything on the server end...

Oh, it is Fetch 4.0.3 and everything was fine before my Mac was updated to 10.4.2 ... it was 10.2.something before.

    Hi,

We'd need some more information to help diagnose the problem.

After you try to connect and you get the error message, could you please choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them here? We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Try the following:

    * Choose "Preferences" from the "Fetch" menu.
    * Click the "Firewall" tab.
    * Make sure "None" is chosen from the "Proxy type" pop-up menu.
    * Click OK, and try again.

Let us know if that does not fix the problem.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Two more things to check and try:

Go to the Firewall pane of the Fetch Preferences, and make sure the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" checkbox is checked. Then try connecting again.

If that doesn't work, go to the Mac OS X System Preferences, click the Sharing icon, click the Firewall tab, and click the Stop button if it says "Firewall On." Try connecting again.

If it's still not working after you've done that, please post a new transcript.

    Thanks,

Checkbox is checked and firewall is off.

    Hi,

I'd give Fetch 5 a try. You can download it from http://fetchsoftworks.com . Let us know if it works, and if not, please post the transcript from it. Sorry to make you go through all this bother.

    Thanks,

My best guess is that your employer has a firewall that blocks outbound FTP connections. I don't think there was any connection to upgrading your Mac -- it seems more likely that something changed in the network setup.

You could ask your employer if it's necessary to use a proxy server to use FTP to sites outside the company network.

    Thanks,
