Fetch 4.0.1 fails to load. (5 posts)

  I initially did not want to register to post on this messageboard, but it appears with my situation, I don't have a choice. I need this problem solved, as Fetch is the primary tool for uploading content to my website, http://www.ultimategamers.org/. With over 800 members, I need a reliable tool, and Fetch has been that reliable, until now.

  I'm going to make a note that Fetch 3.0.3, had absolutely no problems whatsoever on my machine.

  I've used Fetch 4.0.1, for a short period of time. Now, Fetch is behaving erratically, as it will suddenly fail to load or never connect to my server. I have called my ISP, have been put on hold for 3 hours, and talked to a service tech on their side, and have reported no problems. The service tech suggested I downgrade my software. I initially used Mac OS 10.1.2, but I've restarted under OS 9.2.2 so that I could use Fetch 3.0.3. Then it worked.

  I can't explain why Fetch 4.0.1 failed to load. There were no inconsistencies, or errors, or filenames with invalid characters reported on their side. (And how could I possibly upload a filename with bad characters that would prevent Fetch from loading?)

  I have two firewalls, 2Wire Home Portal, and Norton Personal Firewall. Fetch 3.0.3 has absolutely no conflicts with that setup and works just fine. Fetch 4.0.1 refuses to load, but my firewalls report nothing when I use that app.

  My computer as follows:

  Power Mac G3 beige, upgraded with G4 ZIF 500MHz, OS 9.2.2, OS 10.1.2, 384MB RAM.

  Also note that Fetch 3.0.3 will also work normally running under the Classic environment in OS X.

  I can't explain why 4.0.1 refuses to work. I've entered my registration codes correctly.

  One common problem on OS X 10.1 and later is that the file list will not appear unless you uncheck "Use Internet Config" in the General section of Preferences and check "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" in the Firewall section of Preferences.

  If that does not resolve the problems you've seen I'd want to look at the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see a problem.

  I've checked the preference settings, and made sure Internet Config was off and PASV was on. These settings were in check. I clicked the cancel button and loaded the FTP site. Now it works. However, I have the transcript of the most recent launch, it is quoted for you:

  I'm sorry, but the transcript does not show the error you mention. What was the error? Is it still happening?

  I'm confused...

  The error isn't happening now, after refreshing the preferences.

  However, when the error did occur, I checked the transcript myself...the transcript only records the events as they happen. If nothing is happening, say a delay, then nothing is recorded.

  I do get quicker response time from 3.0.3 than 4.0.1, still.
