Fetch 5.0.5 crashed on startup (Mac OS error -981.) (4 posts)

I'm using Fetch 5.0.5. Both my PowerMac and PowerBook are fully up-to-date on OS x 10.4.5

However on my PowerBook only, Fetch won't complete startup. It bounces slowly in the dock as it starts but quits before it finishes startup - without an error message and without creating a CrashReporter log. I've tried reinstalling and trashing all three Prefs files from the ~/Library/Preferences.

The only clues are in the system.log:

    Hi,

Sorry for the troubles you're having, and thanks for the information you sent.

Could you send us your Fetch Prefs and com.fetchsoftworks.Fetch.plist files from the machine where Fetch crashes on startup? I realize you said you threw them out and it didn't fix the problem, but your current ones are of interest to us, since you are still seeing the problem.

Could you please create an archive of the files (choose Create Archive from the Finder's File menu, or use StuffIt), and mail them, along with a short description of your problem, to bugs at fetchsoftworks dot com ? We'll take a look and try to figure out what's going on.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

Thanks for the reply - I have sent you the prefs both before and after. Interestingly, removing all four Fetch related files and re launched causes only three to be recreated; the plist is not recreated before it crashes.

    Hi,

Thanks for sending the files, we'll take a look and may have some followup questions.

We've had one other report of the type of crash you're seeing and we've been trying to track down the cause, so we appreciate your help.

    Thanks,
