Fetch 5.5.2 stalling issue (5 posts)

    I see similar problems posted here. I'm not trying to duplicate a thread but I don't see an answer that helps me out. When I download a file, I stall when the file transfer is complete but before the .zip is uncompressed. I need to resume download to finish the extraction. This is not a server issue; I use multiple servers and get the same result for each download. Before updating to 5.5.2 this did not happen. A second "new" problem: when I shut the Mac down, Fetch cancels the shutdown and I must Force Quit.
    OS 10.5.8 G5 Quad-Core Intel.
    Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer,

    Sorry to hear you're having troubles with Fetch 5.5.2.

    Let's begin by looking into the stall at the end of downloads problem. We'd like some more information.

    You say it happens with multiple servers; are you always downloading .zip files when it happens, or does it happen with non-.zip files as well? (I ask since you used a .zip file as an example.)

    And could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to the server, and download one of the problem files.
    * After you download stalls at the end, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into or attach them to an email to bugs@fetchsoftworks.com.

    Thanks,

    Hi Scott
    I downloaded some files that I grabbed before I updated. The majority of files I access are .zips. I just now downloaded a .jpg, a .sitx, and a .zip. All were less than 50MB and all behaved correctly.
    I'm downloading one now that failed for me earlier today so I can send you the transcript. It is 61MB. When it is done I'll send it off to you. Then I'm done until Monday. I'll have to wait til next week to follow up with you.
    I'm wondering if my preferences changed when I updated? This could very well be an application setting that I don't understand, not a bug. I can't tell though if the problem is file format or file size. At this point it appears to be file size.
    I appreciate how quick you got back with me! Have a good weekend.

    Hi Jennifer,

    Problems with stalls at the very end of the long transfers, but not shorter transfers, usually happen because Fetch doesn't receive the "transfer's finished" message from the server, either because the server failed to send it or your network equipment failed to pass it along. The transfer's actually done, it's just that Fetch didn't receive the proper signal from the server saying "we're done now." I'm not sure if that's the case here or not, we'll see.

    We received your transcript, thanks, and we'll follow up with you via email.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire
