Today we released Fetch 5.7.3, a bug-fix update to Fetch 5.7. This release fixes a number of problems reported by 5.7 users. In particular, we heard from 10.8 users receiving -9807 error messages from FTP with TLS/SSL servers. Yahoo! is requiring that its small business hosting customers switch to using FTP with TLS/SSL by the end of this month, and the -9807 error issue was affecting a number of our customers. We are happy to have a fix to this problem.

    The changes in 5.7.3 are:

    • Fixed a crash connecting to some SFTP servers when the host key has changed
    • Fixed a problem with -9807 errors on FTP with TLS/SSL connections
    • Fixed a problem with MacBinary uploads to Rumpus and other servers with MacBinary support
    • Fixed a problem with mirror downloads not deleting stray files
    • Stopped invoking discrete graphics chip on newer MacBook Pros running Mountain Lion to conserve battery power

Fetch 5.7.3 is a free update if you purchased your Fetch license after January 28, 2009; otherwise an upgrade is $10, and a new license is $29. Fetch 5.7.3 is compatible with Intel Macs running OS X 10.5 or newer.

Please download Fetch 5.7.3 from the Fetch Download page, or by choosing Check for Update… from the Fetch menu in an earlier version, and let us know what you think of the new release.

Not sure why, but the download from your website for this update is extremely slow (Safari download says it will take days). Not having any other download speed issues or internet issues.

Never mind. Whatever the issue it works fine now. :)

We have a bunch of download servers, and one of them was affected by the GoDaddy outage yesterday. It seems to be okay today.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Is your download of Fetch 5.7.3 being interrupted? If that happens I would recommend trying again.

After 25 days waiting to be reviewed, Fetch 5.7.3 is now available from the Mac App Store (as well as from our website). Our apologies to the customers who've been waiting for this update; the App Store reviewers seem to be swamped.

    Hi guys,

Ever since this update, I can't connect to any of my FTP sites, regardless I use simple FTP, SSL, etc. (thankfully I had not quite "needed" it so badly until now). Every single time I try it, I receive this message:
"An FTP (or TLS/SSL, etc) connection to www.xxxxxxx.com could not be opened because the connection timed out."

(FYI: I'm running Fetch on an iMac OS X Lion, v-10.7.5)

I just downloaded and re-installed the update again, but no change. Any ideas?
    Thanks,

    Nomar

I just tried going back to the previous version, but I'm getting the same error message.
Besides, the widget failed to install; it suggests to contact tech support....

    Posted 11 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi Nomar,

The widget is not compatible with OS X 10.7 Lion, so we no longer include it with Fetch.

The errors you are getting suggest a networking problem. Can you connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the Username and Password fields blank)?

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,
Thanks for replying so fast. ;o)

    I tried ftp.fetchsoftworks.com unsuccessfully.

This is the error I receive in this case:
"An FTP connection to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com could not be opened because the FTP server has shut down"

    Hi again,

    I already figured it out:

I started to use CloudFlare a couple of weeks ago, and that changed the information of the "hosting account". I'm now using the ip address instead and it is working perfectly. Thanks, take care,

    Nomar

    Sure.

    One question, though:
The widget from the previous version didn't go away when I uninstalled it; how do I get rid of it?
    Thanks,

I just downloaded the new Fetch - old one has error message " the transfer server has shut down"
I am using my yahoo e-mail account and read about the new requirments.
I paid the 10 and put in new contact/ user information , but it still has an error message.
What do I do next ?

    Posted 11 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi Carol,

Are you setting the "Connect using:" menu to "FTP with TLS/SSL"? That is now required by Yahoo!.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

Please fix the problem that appears as follows: Fetch could not get the file list because the FTP server sent an unexpected response. Check the Fetch Transcript window for more information. Server reponded: "Geo-al: No such file directory".

    Thanks
    Kumar

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

    Hi,

I would recommend unchecking the "Use 'LIST -al' command to reveal hidden items" checkbox in the Miscellaneous section of Fetch Preferences. Does that help?

I've had fetch since 12/2002. I've upgraded to 5.7 on my Mac (10.6.8) and keep getting : An FTP connection to ftp.xxxxxxxx could not be opened because the FTP server has shut down.
Try again, or contact the server administrator to verify that the server is running

Error: the file transfer server has shut down.

I also get :Server responded: “Sorry, cleartext sessions are not accepted on this server

I've been locked out of my two sites for several months.

    HELP!

    Hi,

It sounds like those sites are hosted by Yahoo. Yahoo recently started requiring use of FTP with TLS/SSL, aka FTPS, for better security. If that's the case you need to do two things:

    1) Upgrade to Fetch 5.7.3, which you can download from

    http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/Fetch_5.7.3.dmg

It's a free upgrade (your current serial number will still work).

    2) When you connect to those two sites, set the Connect using: menu to "FTP with TLS/SSL" (rather than just "FTP").

Let me know if that doesn't do the trick.
