I'm trying to delete all the files on my website (using Fetch) so I can replace corrupted files. I've chosen to delete all the files and replace them.

The site is registered in my name and I'm the designated server administrator. I have the I'm getting this message: "Fetch could not delete the specified items because the server says you do not have the required permissions." "Server responded: "access 01Apr2010.gz: Permission denied"

The website, BarbroDesigns.com, is hosted by Earthlink. I set up and have the user name and password. Any suggestions on how I can sort this out would be appreciated. Thank you. Thor

That filename sounds like it might be a log file. Web hosting companies often protect log files from deletion.

I would double-check to make sure you are only downloading the files and folders that make up your website.

    Thanks,

    Thanks Jim.

To your point that "Web hosting companies often protect log files from deletion," I got a "Fetch could not delete the specified items because the server says you do not have the required permissions" yesterday when trying to delete all the existing files with the thought of doing a Put with the updated and other files via iWeb. I've since learned of "the PHP parse error" and the need to add a plain-text file (htaccess) and to copy it to the root (public html folder) with Fetch.

Re your suggestion that I should "double-check to make sure you are only downloading the files and folders that make up your website," I do see two files in the public folder (public - ftp.dom.earthlink.net) that were not part of the original website (ftp-dom.earthlink.net) I created:

    eln-images and favicon.ico

Earthlink is who we have the "starter site" (monthly fee) with and I assume that's a legitimate file. Network Solutions is the company with whom we have "Private Registration" and "Domain Name" service.
