...well, maybe not hangs, but the 'dog keeps running', as they say. What I'm trying to do is to download my website for backup purposes. I've done this before, using both Anarchie & Fetch 3. I was excited to see the new Fetch and bought v4 a couple of days ago. I've read other posts -- have tried leaving passive mode as suggested -- but no go. The download progresses without a problem, usually through 2 or 3 directories & a couple of hundred files, then just sticks on one. It's never the same file, but it's always around the same place, usually somewhere in the cgi-bin or in the two directories immediately after. Odd. I used to just drag the www directory to the zip drive and go read the paper. Now, not so simple.

    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Don Jennings

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after a transfer fails?

    Thanks,

Here's the transcript after the last failure. I started the download at 9:19 pm. When I came back there was a window open stating that there was an open transport error (this is a first; others have said unable to establish address and connection died).

I would recommend checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences. Does that help?

    Thanks,

I have tried it both with passive checked and not. I'll try again right now. Thanks for the help, I'll post again.

Makes no difference -- just seems that, for some reason, the app hangs with big downloads. Maybe it has something to do with my connection...

I too have noticed this problem with Fetch 4.0 and 4.0.1 where it seems to have trouble either uploading or downloading large files where small HTML files are perfectly fine transferring. Just larger files from 200B or more files will just hang and Fetch doggie running forever.

At first, I thought it might be our connection too but if more then one person said this is also happening to them then it's unlikely a connection problem.

I also have played with Passive Mode on and off to no avail.

I know that large uploads and downloads are working very reliably for some users, so my guess is that there's something about these situations that make them different. I'd be interested in seeing transcripts from large transfers that failed while smaller transfers were working.

    Thanks,
