Fetch holds old files (4 posts)

My client has removed old files and uploaded new ones. When I connect from this computer (Mac G5, system 10.3.9) I see the old files, not the new ones. I've re-started the computer and the problem persists. When I connect from another computer (G5, system 10.4) I can access the new files. Why is Fetch holding onto this information? How can I clear it?

    TIA for your help

    Hi,

There are two possible reasons you're seeing the old files when you connect from one of the Macs.

The first possibility is that Fetch is showing you an out-of-date file list on one of hte Macs. You can use the Refresh command to fix this problem:

    * Connect to the server with Fetch on the problem Mac.
    * When you see the old files:
    - If you're using Fetch 5 or later, go to the View menu and choose Refresh.
    - If you're using Fetch 4, go to the Directories menu and choose Refresh File List.

If the new files appear, you're all set.

If that does not fix the problem, the second possibility is that you are connecting to a different folder on the server on one Mac than you are on the other Mac. It could be that there are two copies of the files on the server, and your client only removed them from one folder, and not the other.

Double-check to make sure you are using exactly the same connection information on both Macs - the same hostname, username, and initial folder. If that all appears to be the same, once you've connected on each computer, click the Path button (in Fetch 5) on each computer and see if the list of folders it displays is identical.

Please let us know if either of these suggestions helps or not.

    Thanks,

Thank you for your quick response. Of course, when I logged on again to try your fix I had the new files! But I have saved your answer in case I run into this again.

    Hi,

It sounds like Fetch refreshed the file list on its own this morning (which is how it's supposed to work!).

Anyway, we're glad to hear it's fixed - thanks for the followup.

    Best,
