When left open and unused for 3 or 4 minutes, fetch is closing all running applications. Why is it doing this and how can I fix the problem?

    Hi,

I've never heard of Fetch closing other applications before, but there is a new feature in Mac OS X Lion where the system automatically closes applications that haven't been used recently. Perhaps that's what you're seeing?

Here's an article about Lion's "automatic termination" feature: http://tidbits.com/article/12398

    Thanks,

No, I'm running Snow Leopard and it's only Fetch that does it. I can leave Photoshop, mac-mail or any other program open as long as I like. It's just Fetch that does it. I can't find any where that tells me what or why it's doing it.

So you leave Fetch running, and sometime later you notice that other applications have quit?

No, I leave fetch open literally three to four minutes unused it closes every single running program. I've timed it. It's frustrating because, sometimes I have to pull files from other computers to put on our Ftp and by the time I've redirected my finder window to the correct folder it's closing everything. Like I said it's only fetch that does it. I was just hoping someone new how to fix it.

I am baffled by the behavior you are describing. I've worked on Fetch for over 20 years, and don't recall ever hearing about a problem like this. There is code in Fetch to quit Fetch, but no code to quit any other application.

Have you been seeing this problem ever since you started using Fetch?

    Thanks,

Yes, at first I thought is was an installation problem so I uninstalled and reinstalled but the problem persists. There were no error messages and it seemed to install smoothly like it should. I've been struggling with this for the last two years hoping someone else was having this problem and it would be resolved with the next update but alas no va. After it shut everything down for the third time yesterday, I decided it would be best to get on your support board and ask for help.

There might be clues to what's going on in your system console. The next time you see this happen could you:

    1) Choose "Utilities" from the Go menu in the Finder
    2) Open the Console application
    3) Select "All Messages" in the left sidebar
    4) Copy the last screenful of messages and post it here?

I'll see what I can figure out.

    Thanks,
