FETCH NOT FETCHING! (6 posts)

    Hi,

I am constructing a website in Freeway Pro 5. I spent a great deal of time last night trying to upload my iMac site to our directnic domain (www.zioncitychurch.org) via FETCH. I did a Nameserver change and the domain finally resolved. We have a new "Under Construction" page that we'd like to use until our site is up and ready to go. For some reason, I am unable to "put" the site into FETCH so that Directnic.com recognizes it for publishing. I've already talked to directnic.com twice.

I've been studying a previous site (themcnair.com) I lauched several years ago and constructed my new site in a similiar manner so that it launches like this one. No use. Whenever I try to open the file in FETCH it removes it.

Is there something I doing wrong with the Freeway files? Anybody ever launched Freeway or Mac based website with directnic using FETCH? Are you able to please walk us through the process of uploading our new site? We just want to run the "Under Construction" page for now. The site will be ready to launch in January 2010.

    Thanks for your support.

    Hi Colier,

I'm sorry, but I'm not quite clear on what the problem is that you're experiencing.

Are you having a problem connecting to the server for the new site?

Or are you getting an error when you upload files?

Are the files uploading successfully, but the webpages don't display when you go to your site in a web browser?

    Or is it something else?

    Thanks,

    Thanks for your response.

Yes to all three (3) questions you posed. At first there was a connection problem. For the longest we continued to receive error messages (i.e., file doesn't exist, some # message... etc.). Then it appears the upload was successfully completed but the site has yet to show in the browser.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

So you are no longer receiving errors when you try to connect or try to upload, is that correct? We cannot really advise on what might have been causing them, although it sounds like perhaps there were problems with the server.

When you do not see your webpages in a web browser after uploading them, there are two likely causes for this sort of problem.

First, on many servers, the files that make up your website must go in a specially named folder, for example, one named "public_html", "htdocs", or "www" - the exact name of the folder will depend on your server. Usually you do not need to create this folder, it will already exist. You should check to make sure you uploaded your website files to the correct folder on the server. If you are unsure which folder you should put your website files in, you should contact the company or person that runs the server and ask which folder you should upload website files to.

Second, it is possible you uploaded your website files inside a folder, when what you really needed to do was upload the contents of the folder, but not the folder itself.

For example, let's say your website is in a folder called "My New Website", and inside that folder you have the pages and files that make up your website:

So, on your Mac's hard drive, you might have:

    My New Website (folder)
      contact.html
      index.html
      Photos (folder)

For your website to work correctly, you must be sure to upload the entire contents of the "My New Website" folder, but don't upload the "My New Website" folder itself.

You should check for those two potential problems, and if you have made a mistake, try uploading again.

We can't really provide specific instructions for your case, because every server has different requirements for where webpages should be located, and also we are not familiar with Freeway.

But if you still can't get it working, let us know and we will see if we can advise further.

    Thanks,
