Hi. When I try to upload any file using Fetch, it instanly uploads 8 kilobytes, but the upload speed slowly dies down until it reaches 0 bytes per second. I can't upload anything! Can I have some help? Perhaps a port to forward from my Airport router? Anything? Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

No, forwarding a port would not likely help fix this problem. However, to try to figure out what the problem is, we'd like some more information.

Is this a new problem? Did uploading to the same server use to work fine?

Do you have the problem with just one server, or all FTP servers?

Is your Airport connected to an Ethernet connection?

Assuming it is, what happens if you connect your Mac directly to the Ethernet cable and then try to upload?

    Thanks,

This is not a new problem. I've experience the same thing using Cyberduck, as well. While browsing through their forums, someone with a similar problem said they switched to Fetch, because it just works. So I tried Fetch and still had the same problem. It is also the same case on EVERY FTP server I try and connect to.

Yes, my Airport is connected to Ethernet. It also works when I connect my Mac directly to the connection. But I can't do that often, because the connection needs to be shared with my family members. If there is some way in my current situation where I can upload to FTP via my Airport connection, I'd be really happy. But wireless internet is sooo complicated (we've had to buy a new phone because Airport interfered with it) and I'd understand if it just doesn't work out. Whatever the case, tell me what you think. You guys ROCK!

    Hi,

If neither Fetch nor other FTP programs can upload to any server with the Airport base station, but it works without the Airport, most likely there's a problem with the Airport Base Station.

You should try updating it to the latest firmware (you can download updates from Apple) and if that doesn't seem to fix the problem, you might want to talk to Apple about getting it tested and fixed.

If your server supports SFTP connections, you could try uploading using SFTP and see if that happens to work.

If you want to post a transcript of an attempted upload from Fetch we'll take a look at it and just double-check to make sure we don't see any other possible problems. To do that, choose Fetch Transcript from the Window menu, copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them here.

    Thanks,
