    I've been able to use Fetch to connect with my server until recently when it switched to insisting on a TLS/SSL connection. I've tried it with my firewall on and off, and with ftp access allowed and not allowed in the Sharing folder of my preferences. Still I get an error message: "An ftp with TLS.SSL connection could not be opened because the FTP server dropped the connection. I've checked with the system administrator, too, and the server is up and running. The administrator can offer no advice. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

    Hi,

    We'd like some more information to help diagnose the problem. Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Try connecting to your server.
    * Go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Thanks for the transcript.

    Can you connect to other FTP servers? For instance, can you connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (using regular FTP, do not enter a username and password)?

    Are you connecting to the Internet through a router, or using an Airport Base Station or other wireless router?

    Thanks,

    Yes, I can connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com. I do not use an Airport Base Station or wireless router. My connection is through a standard DSL line.

    Hi,

    Here's what I would try next:

    * Shut down your Mac.
    * Unplug the DSL modem.
    * Wait 30 seconds, and then turn back on the DSL modem. Wait another minute or so for the DSL modem to get ready.
    * Start up your Mac again.
    * Try connecting to the server again.

    I know this sounds like pretty standard troubleshooting advice, but it does actually sometimes solve problems like these.

    If that doesn't work, I would suggest trying to connect to the server with another FTP program that supports FTP with TLS/SSL - such as Transmit - and see if it can connect successfully to the server.

    Please let us know what you find out.

    Thanks,

    The cybrarian with the server just informed that the server was having trouble converting my IP address to a domain name, so I turned that function off. It works now. Thanks for the help. It's nice to know Fetch has people to assist customers!!
