Using Fetch 4.03, and system 9.2.2.
Problem: file names change in a peculiar and consistent way in the fetch file list after uploading.
Example: "file name.txt" becomes "file- ,name- .,txt"
Somebody mentioned to me that this problem may be related to the fact that system 9.2.2 uses unicode fonts.
    Is this a known problem?

No, that isn't a known problem. Could you try an upload, then refresh the file list (choose "Refresh File List" from the Directories menu), and then post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window (choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu)?

    Thanks,

This may be relevant to the problem:

I normally upload by draging from desktop to the Fetch main window, and then got the problem. If I upload by clicking the "Put files" button, the file name appears also corrupted in the "Put files" window. However, if at this stage I change the "format menu" from Automatic to Applesingle, the file name normalizes, and it remains correct after clicking OK. Weird!

That's a good clue. For some reason the Finder is displaying the name as file 1.jpg while Fetch sees it as file- 1.,jpg. Is this a non-U.S. system, or running with a special language kit? What happens if the file is named file1.jpg (with no space)? I'm wondering if the space and period characters are actually special Unicode (or other two-byte) characters.

Yes, I am running 9.2.2 with an Hebrew language kit. I believe that the problem dissapears if I use a Latin font (Verdana) for "views and icons" Appearance in the Finder. However, this is not a perfect solution, since some of the file names need to be displayed with an Hebrew font.

Regarding your second question: "file1,jpg" becomes " "file-1.,jpg" when using my standard Hebrew font.
Interestingly, Interarchy 5.0 behaves OK under my standard settings.

Summarizing: do you think this problem is due to my peculiar Hebrew settings, or is a common problem for any foreign language kit under Unicode in system 9.2.2 ?

Thanks- for- your- kind- advice- ,. (just kidding)

My guess is that Fetch does not handle two-byte characters in file names correctly, and that the problem isn't particular to your setup. Thanks for reporting this problem.
