file won't put (12 posts)

    Ok, I just have to verify this:
    I downloaded a file from fetch, edited it and now I want to "put" the file back to fetch for uploading. It seems I absolutely must delete the old file first that is already there. Correct? Or else the new edited file won't load.

    When I drag my new edited file into the folder in fetch it reads: permission denied.

    But I have permission to upload.
    Thanks

    Hi Patricia,

    No, actually, normally you do not need to delete the old file first. Fetch should replace the old file automatically when you upload the newer version of the file, and after the upload is complete, you should see the changes to the file on the server.

    Do you get an error when you try to upload a new version of a file that is already on the server?

    Or is the upload successful, but you don't see the changes to the file after uploading it?

    Thanks,

    I just tried to drag it in again. The menu comes up that reads Server response: links.html: Permission denied

    Hi Patricia,

    Okay, there may be some problem with the server that is keeping you replacing files from working.

    We'd like some more information to help figure out what's going on.

    Could you please do the following?

    * Quit Fetch, if it's running.
    * Open Fetch again.
    * Connect to your server.
    * Try uploading again.
    * After you receive the error, go to the Window menu, and choose Fetch Transcript.
    * Copy the entire contents of the transcript window, and paste them into a reply to this message.

    We'll take a look and try to advise further.

    Thanks,

    Hi Patricia,

    I have deleted the transcript as requested.

    Do you have this problem with just the links.html file, or every file you try to upload a replacement for?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Thank you so much.

    I haven't tried another file. I will right now.

    Seems like it is for all files. I just tried another. same message: permission denied.

    Hi Patricia,

    If it happens with all files, this is almost certainly a server problem.

    However, I noticed that you were using Fetch 4.0.3, which is quite an old version. If you're trying out Fetch to see if you want to buy it, I recommend you try Fetch 5.6, our current version, which you can download using this link:

    http://fetchsoftworks.com/fetch/download/latest

    So I'd say download Fetch 5.6, give it a try, and if you see the same problem with it, it is a problem with the server. You should contact the company people who run the server, describe the problem to them, and ask them to look into it.

    Please let us know if you have further questions after trying Fetch 5.6 and talking to the server people if necessary.

    Thanks,
