ftp connection suddenly not working on all usual favourite ftp sites (7 posts)

  We have been using fetch for over 5 years with no problems connecting and uploading our artwork to the same 3 sites.

  Suddenly last week we cant connect (on any of our studio macs) - the dog just runs and runs and we a get a message saying " An FTP connection to www.healeys-upload.co.uk could not be opened because the ftp server dropped the connection. We have contacted this supplier and they have made no changes and their server is running normally. This is the same with 4 other regular ftps supplier sites we upload to.

  Heres a copy of the script

  An FTP connection to “www.healeys-upload.co.uk” could not be opened because the FTP server dropped the connection. (Try again, or contact the server administrator to verify that the server is running.)

  we are running fetch 5.6

  any help appreciated

  I'm able to connect to www.healeys-upload.co.uk (but not login, since I do not have an account there). My guess is that the server was temporarily unavailable.

  Are you able to login now?

  no i cant , its been like this a week and this isnt the only ftp i cant connect to, the dog just runs and runs

  Can you connect to ftp.fetchsoftworks.com (leave the Username and Password fields blank)?

  well typically in frustration i turned our ethernet switch/hub which our macs are connected to off and on again, and although we dont use airport for these macs, i switched that off and on again, and all is working fine now!!

  its frustrating though, i like to know why something has happened and how it was fixed, especially as we dont use our airport to connect these macs to the internet, its only used for the laptop.

  I'm glad you found the solution -- restarting network devices is often a good thing to try.
