I Know this is an idiot question and not directly about Fetch itself. BUT...

Can someone please tell me what the difference is between transferring a file over FTP or transferring a file over IP.

File Transfer Protocol vs Internet Protocol.

Are they different words for the same thing? I don't get it and I would really like to understand this.

    thanks in advance

Protocols are organized in layers, where a higher-layer protocol uses the layer below it to do its job. FTP is built on top of TCP, the Transmission Control Protocol, which in turn is built on top of IP, the Internet Protocol. So when you use FTP you are using IP (and TCP) -- they work together. I don't know of any way to use just IP to transfer files.

    I hope this helps,
