Is there a secret way to turn gatekeeper OFF in 10.8.2?

It isn't a secret: Open System Preferences, go to Security & Privacy, and select "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere".

Unfortunately, that does not completely stop Gatekeeper. That only allows the third part apps to run. Apple still prohibits many of the upgrade files and some which are not listed in keychain. Not sure about keychain actually but I have had nothing but issues with some of my Audio upgrades. I'm a music producer. Several upgrades I had to install in root. So far using root user I have it all up in ML but what a hassle. There is a company called eLicenser which didn't figure it out until many of us screamed at them including major software makers. They finally wrote the upgrade properly. This company is responsible for a myriad of software permissions to actually run your software after spending thousands on them. We were down about three days on that one.

This won't be the last time we will find software companies running into 10.8 issues. I hope I have at least cured my needs for the moment.
