I am trying to download a complete directory from a unix server on my LAN. This directory contains a large number of files and sub-directories (>2000).

At random points fetch will stop with the message:
Server response: Can't build data connection: Cannot assign requested address.
The file information on the right of the fetch window shows the correct file name, but type "unknown" and a file size slightly larger than the server's ls -l command shows.
I can continue the ftp immediately with no obvious ill effect, but with such a large download it is very onerous.
The unix server appears to be working fine and throws up no error messages.
I had the same problem with Fetch 3.0.3, which is why I am trying Fetch 4, but no luck :-(

    David.

I would recommend checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences.

If that does not work I'd be interested in seeing a transcript.

One work-around would be to use the Mirror command to do the transfer. Then, if the transfer fails, you can give the command again and it will only transfer the files that didn't get transfered the first time.

That seemed to work.. thank you.

There is no firewall there, so I am not sure why this should happen. I am using wu-ftpd on the unix side.
