Sorry to trouble you kind folks, but after six months of sporadically trying to solve this myself, I turn to your expert advice.

I purchased fetch (version 4.03) on Feb. 19, 2003, for use on my Apple Titanium Powerbook, which is connected via Airport to a Netgear hub. Years ago, this same setup worked. But this time around, I have not been able to connect even once.

When I double-click on the Fetch icon, I get a dialogue box for a new connection. The default that comes up is:

    host: ftp.fetchsoftworks.com
    User ID
    Password

It never accepts my password, even though my User ID and Password are the same ones I used to post this very message.

I then change the host to my domain name:

    host: ftp.jdlasica.com

and enter the User ID and Password for my ISP, but after a minute it tells me:

Server response: Can't build data connection: Connection timed out.

I then enter the isp domain name that I use to upload files on my PC through GlobalScape's Cute FTP:

    host: ftp:larry.dreamhost.com

And it tells me: No such domain name.

So I'm stumped. What do I do to get this working? Thanks!

It sounds like the correct host name is either "ftp.jdlasica.com" or "larry.dreamhost.com" (without the ftp :). Once you find information that works you can change the default shortcut so that Fetch won't suggest ftp.fetchsoftworks.com anymore. To make a new default shortcut, fill in the New Connection window and choose "Create New Default Shortcut..." from the Shortcut pop-up.

I would try ftp.jdlasica.com again, and post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you get an error. Choose "Fetch Transcript" from the Window menu to reveal the transcript.

    Thanks,

I would recommend checking the "Use passive mode transfers (PASV)" box in the Firewall section of Preferences. If that does not help could you post the transcript again?

    Thanks,
