I am a UCLA Student trying to access the UCLA host if there is one; and if unable to access a possible UCLA host, to what hosts do I have access? Are there some general hosts for connections? I am completely new to this all. Thank you.

    Hi,

There may be FTP servers at UCLA that you can access, but you would need to talk to your school's information technology department or computing help desk to find out what they are and what you could do with them.

There are many anonymous FTP sites that you can connect to without having an account. They usually offer a variety of files to download. For instance, you can connect to

    ftp://ftp.fetchsoftworks.com

to download the latest version of Fetch, or you can connect to

    ftp://mirror.apple.com/mirrors/info-mac/

to access a library of Macintosh software.

If you do an Internet search for "anonymous ftp sites" you will find other listings for other sites.

If you are new to using FTP and Fetch, you may want to read the Why Transfer Files? and Introductory Fetch Tutorial help topics in Fetch Help for an overview.

    Thanks,
