I'd like to post files and lock them so that they can only be downloaded but not deleted by anyone but me. Is this possible?

    Hi,

We need more information about how you have things set up in order to help you answer that question.

Do you plan for people to download the files using a web browser, or by using an FTP client?

If by using an FTP client, are you thinking that people would log in using your username and password to get to the files?

    Thanks,

Yes, they'd be using an FTP client and logging in with their own user name and password.

    Hi,

I believe if you set the permissions of those files such that the "group" and "others" only have read permissions on the files (but the "owner" has read and write permission) while you are logged in with your username, other users will not be able to delete the files.

You should also set the permissions of the server folders containing the files so that "group" and "others" only have read and execute permissions on the folders (you must set "execute" permissions on the folders in order for them to see the contents of the folders).

You can find more information about permissions, and how to set and view permissions with Fetch, by reading the following help topics:

    Viewing and setting permissions

    Permissions in Fetch

I would recommend that you do a test first - set permissions on some test files, create a second user, log in as the second user, and then make sure you can read but not delete while logged in as the second user - before making the files available to others.

Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks,
