I assume it's automatically omitting filenames that begin with a . but in my prefrences I have not asked it to do that. (the box is unchecked) is there anywhere else I can go so that I can see my .htaccess files?

Yes -- in the Misc. section of Preferences choose "Send LIST -al to UNIX Servers" from the Obscure Options pop-up menu. That should work around this server problem.

    Thanks,
