I have several web sites hosted on my account, when I log in with fetch I see all the sites and have no problem getting into and ftping into them -all except one... it gets hung up at 'getting dir name...' here is the transcript:

I deleted this site from the server and then added it again. There is no problem with my partner using SmartFTP on his PC. I would really like to not use his PC to work on this client -especially since I have to interupt serious gaming..grr Also, I hate using PCs

Same issues with BBEdit. I've tried other FTP programs with no luck with this one web site. I have not tried using terminal -don't particularly want to go down that road.

Today I fired up an old 1st geberation iMac using OS8.6 -it had no problem using Fetch and getting into the acfnc.org. So it seems to be a OSX issue?

    Dual 533 MHz PowerPC G4 640MB RAM
    OSX v10.3.7

Just thought I'd add this to my original post, the iMac is in the basement and networked but I'd really rather use my system in my warm office to FTP...

That's very strange. My best guess is that's it's a low level networking issue -- I can't think of any other cause that would affect Fetch on one machine but not on another.

One thing you might experiment with is changing the MTU for your OS X machine (assuming it is connecting via Ethernet). Let me know if you want instructions on doing that.

    Thanks,

yes, it appears to be an OSX issue, we have a Titanium that also has Panther and also can't Fetch to the one site (other sites on the same server have no problem) I was really surprised that the old iMac with OS8.6 can get in with Fetch v4.0...

I am connected via ethernet and would gladly accept instructions for changing the MTU (I have no idea what that is!)

thank you, it was very cold in the cellar today!

To change the MTU on Panther:

    1) Choose System Preferences... from the Apple menu.
    2) Click on the Network icon.
    3) Set the "Show:" pop-up menu to "Built-in Ethernet"
    4) Click on the "Ethernet" tab (the last one, after Proxies).
    5) Set the "Configure:" pop-up menu to "Manually (Advanced)"
    6) Set the Maximum Packet Size (MTU): to Custom, and enter 1400 in the field there.
    7) Click the "Apply Now" button.

If that does not help you can reverse the change by setting the Congifure menu back to Automatically.

    Thanks,

Thanks for the clear instructions. Unfortunatley, this didn't help -so I reset my configuration. It just doesn't seem to make sense that only one site has access issues & only on Macs with Panther... thanks again, any other ideas?
