iWeb upload problems (26 posts)

Hi I'm hoping to get some help regarding iWeb problems. I have created a site in iWeb and uploaded it and I get an error when I upload it. So, for a test , I then uploaded a non iWeb site to my server and it worked. I'm really confused, because when I test the index.htm for the iWeb site it seems like it's not there or something. When I look at the index.htm file for the non - iWeb site, I can edit it and it works just fine.

    Please help.

    Thank you,

    Travis

    Hi Travis,

What error do you get when you try to upload the iWeb-created website?

    Thanks,

    Hi Travis,

    Just to double-check:

Do get that error when the files are uploading with Fetch?

Or do you get that error when trying to view the webpage in your browser, after it has been uploaded?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

    Hi Travis,

What happens if you do the following?

    * Open the folder on your Macintosh that you published your website to.
    * Double-click the index.html file you'll find in there. Your web browser should open.
    * Go to one of the problem photo album pages.

Do you get the same error when you do that?

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire

I can't figure out why it will not work on the public website. urg.

    Hi Travis,

I would recommend connecting to the server, completely deleting the copy of the website on the server, publish the website from iWeb to a new folder on your Mac, and uploading the newly published copy of the website to the server. That may clear up the problem.

    Thanks,

    Scott,
Are you saying to go on to the server and delete everything then reupload via iWeb?

    Hi Travis,

Well, I had been assuming you had been using Fetch to upload your website, which requires that you publish the website to a folder first. But yes, try deleting everything and then uploading again.

I exported the website to the mac hard drive, then used Fetch to upload it to the webserver and I get the following error still:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /usr/home/simonsphoto/index.html on line 1

    Hi Travis,

Since you are getting the same error regardless of whether you upload the website with Fetch or iWeb, and we know that the website does work when you try to open it from your Mac's hard drive, it looks like your server is causing the problem - based on the error, it sounds like maybe it does not like a line in your webpage's code. I would contact the company or people who run the server and ask for their advice to see if they know what the error means.

Searching the web for "iWeb syntax error unexpected T_STRING" seems to lead to some suggestions; it may be that you need to edit the HTML created by iWeb to make your server happy. But I'd start by talking to the server people first, they may have a quick solution for you.

    Thanks,

I am working with iweb. When I publish to the local folder, the folder remains empty. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi Will,

I would suggest contacting Apple (e.g. visiting the Genius Bar at an Apple Store, if that's feasible, or using their support discussion boards).

    Thanks,

    Thank you Jim,
Is this a problem you are familiar with? Is there no way I can work around it, for instance publish directly to the server?

    Posted 11 years ago #

  • Jim Matthews Administrator

No, I haven't heard of this problem. To use Fetch with iWeb you have to first publish to a folder, and the questions we get are usually about what happens after that step. I can't think of a good reason why iWeb would "publish" an empty folder.

The latest version of iWeb is supposed to be able to publish directly to an FTP server. If you can get that to work you would not need to use Fetch.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,
I am a small step further now.
On my Mac: When I choose the site www.mudfield.nl, in Safari, the site shows
On my iPad; When I do the same, I read: Not found, the requested URL/basis.html was not found on this server.
In Firefox the same text: Not found, and so on.

Has something gone wrong with the naming of the site and what can I do about it?

    Posted 11 years ago #

The page appears for me on my iPad (an iPad 2, running iOS 5.1.1). It also appears for me in Firefox 14.0.1 (the latest version, I believe).

I would try again and see if you're still getting the same errors.

    Thanks,

    Hi Jim,
I still have the same problems. I found out that the name of the site has changed to: www.mudfield.nl/Basis.html
Is there a way I can change that to just: www.mudfield.nl
It seems it also gives problems on Outlook express.
    Thanks for your help!

    Jim,
I meant Internet Explorer instead of Outlook Express, I am not familiar with Windows.

    Thanks again,
