I have a campus site license which has been working well in my student labs for many months. A couple weeks ago Fetch started complaining that the trial version had expired. (What trial version? It's a genuine Edu license.) But it only complains when the students use it. It works just fine for me.

I tried reinstalling Fetch and deleting the students' Fetch preference files. It still works for me, but the students get a "Welcome" message and are asked to enter a number.

What could be going wrong? It's as though Fetch can't see the registration code in the Resource fork. But read permissions on the file look ok.

Fetch stores serial number in two places: in a hidden file in the Preferences folder and in the Fetch application itself. My guess is that in your lab the information is only stored in your Preferences folder, so Fetch doesn't see it when run by other users, and thinks it's running in trial mode.

To get the serial number information into the Fetch application itself run it in a folder where you have write permission, and hold down Control and Option as it starts running; you'll be prompted to enter the serial number.

    Thanks,
