I have used Fetch 4.0.3 with my iMac with OS 10.2.3 over a month, successfully, but today I couldn't reach my server.

I am greeted by the server and can access different short cuts to different folders on my account, but instead of folders (in folders) I see question marks.

Fetch can't reach inside my folders since it obviously doesn't recognize what a folder is anylonger...

    Help! Anyone?

Could you post the contents of the Fetch Transcript window after you see the problem? Have you tried double-clicking the icon with the question mark?

    Thanks,

Ok, here it is (and I've tried click, yell, and some other things, at the question mark, without success)

This is what the program thinks about the "things" that are folders:

    CWD 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www
550 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www: The system cannot find the file specified.

    MDTM 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www
550 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www: The system cannot find the file specified.
    PASV
    227 Entering Passive Mode (193,13,133,10,50,249)
    RETR 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www
550 04-09-03 05:45PM <dir> www: The system cannot find the file specified.
    ftp_retrieve: -30000 (state == GET_RETRIEVING)

I've tried to delete the files in "Fetch preferences" and to reinstall the program, to no avail.

Today I started up my Mac OS 8.6 iMac, which a much older Fetch, and started using it instead...

    There are two problems:

    1) The server configured to use DOS-style file listings instead of UNIX-style ones (which Fetch understands).

    2) The server (or a firewall in front of the server) is rejecting the "SITE DIRSTYLE" command that Fetch sends to change the file listing style.

The result is that the server is sending file listings in a format that Fetch does not understand. If you refresh the file list a few times eventually Fetch will give up and use a simpler file listing format.

    Thanks,

    Yeah!

I mailed your answer to my webhost people, and they discovered that their firewall had been updated, and no longer allowed me to log on. Surprise!

This problem must have irritated others as well, so I'm very glad that I got help. In fact, I'm extremely happy now!

    Many thanks Jim!
