    Since my web hotel changed ftp-servers etc. I had this problem that I can´t connect to my site with Fetch, but other peolpe using other Ftp-programes can. And I don´t want to change ftp-program if it isn´t necessary. I´m using Fetch 4.0.2, and i´m working in Mac OS X 10,4,11.

    When I log in I get this message "Server respons ADAT command successful". Here is the report from the fetch transcript:

    Fetch 4.0.2 System 0x1049 Serial FETCHED001-1949-4DV2 TR

    Hi Christina,

    Please try the following:

    * Open Fetch.
    * Click Cancel to dismiss the New Connection dialog.
    * Go to the Fetch menu, and choose Preferences.
    * Click the Misc tab.
    * Click the Obscure Options button.
    * Choose "Don't send ADAT probe command" from the pop-up menu.
    * Click OK to close the Preferences window.

    Then try connecting to your server again. Please let us know if you're still having problems after trying that.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

    Thanks for trying that. It looks like the server is refusing your username for some reason - the server is telling Fetch that "user cannot log in." That message is from the server, not Fetch, so it's out of Fetch's control.

    You should contact the people who run the server and ask them to check to see if there is a problem with your account, and to verify the correct hostname, username, and password to use.

    Thanks,

    That´s strange because everybody else gets in with that username (with other ftp programs). And it didn´t told me that the username was wrong when I didn´t check the "Don't send ADAT probe command" checkbox.
    It must be some other configuration to check because this problem started when the web hotel changed the web platform from windows 2003 to Windows 2008 etc. (They also changed the databases to UTF8.) My web hotel is Ballou Hosting Intelligence.

    Hi Christina,

    You are using a version of Fetch that is over 10 years old. It may be that the server is not compatible with such an old FTP client any longer. We have released many updates to Fetch since that time.

    I would recommend downloading our latest version of Fetch, version 5.5.3, and see if you can connect with it. If you cannot, please send the transcript from Fetch 5.5.3 and we'll investigate further.

    You can download Fetch 5.5.3 using this link:

    Hi Christina,

    Thanks for trying that. The server continues to reply "User cannot log in." That really does mean the server did not accept either the username or password you entered; Fetch is not involved in that decision. Fetch sends what you typed to the server, and it is the server that decides whether they are valid or not; Fetch just passes the message along.

    So I would suggest that you double-check and make sure you really are using the same username and password as your colleagues. Remember that passwords are case-sensitive, so if the password includes both upper and lowercase letters, you need to type them in upper or lowercase.

    If Fetch is automatically filling out the password for you, delete what Fetch entered and type the password yourself, and see if that helps.

    If you still cannot connect after trying both those things, let us know and we can suggest another test, but it will likely have the same results.

    Thanks,

    Scott McGuire
