not able to access ftp sites through fetch when same host/user id/pw works on PC (4 posts)

    Hello there,

    I typically access 3 different FTP servers to upload/download files. Of the three, I am only able to access one using fetch (v. 4.0.3). It has been driving me crazy since I can access these same FTP servers through my husband's PC using the same host/user id/passwords.

    I'm not sure if it makes a difference, but the FTP server that has worked (even though there have been may occasions when the connection has been "rejected by the server") is my service provider.

    By the way, I did download a trial of Fetch 5.1.1. to see if that made a difference, but it still gave me an error message:
    "FTP connection to "..." (by way of proxy server "ftp.wanadoo.es") could not be opened because the server rejected the password.
    Contact the server admin. to verify that you have the correct host...
    Server responded: "login Incorrect.""

    I welcome any suggestions.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Monica,

    Please try doing the following in Fetch (these instructions are for Fetch 4.0.3):

    * Click the Cancel button in the New Connection dialog, if the New Connection dialog is open.
    * Choose Preferences from the Fetch menu.
    * Click the Firewall tab.
    * Make sure the Use passive mode transfers (PASV) checkbox is checked.
    * Make sure the Proxy type pop-up menu is set to None, unless you know for sure that you need a Proxy setting. (Most people do not need a proxy setting, especially at home.)
    * Click OK to close the Preferences dialog.

    Now try connecting to the problem servers again. Let us know if this fixes the problem or not. If it doesn't, we will investigate further.

    Thanks,
